What Cellular Modem communication protocols are commonly used

In the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), the Data Transmission Unit,Cellular Modem is the key equipment to realize remote data communication.Cellular Modem uses different communication protocols to communicate with various sensors, actuators, and back-end servers. This article will introduce some Cellular Modem communication protocols commonly used in the industrial Internet of Things.

I. TCP/IP protocol

TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) is the basic protocol of Internet. It is also one of the protocols commonly used in Cellular Modem communication.TCP protocol provides reliable connection service, which is suitable for scenarios with large amount of data transmission and high requirements for data security. The IP protocol is responsible for the routing and addressing of packets.

2. UDP protocol

UDP (User Data gram Protocol) is a connectionless protocol, which provides a simple and unreliable transaction-oriented information transfer service.UDP protocol is suitable for the transmission of multimedia data, such as voice and video, in the scene of small amount of data transmission and high real-time requirements.

III. MQTT protocol

MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport) is a lightweight publish/subscribe messaging protocol,Designed for low bandwidth, high latency, or unreliable networks.MQTT protocol has the characteristics of small message, fast transmission, low overhead, and minimal protocol exchange, which is very suitable for use in the Internet of Things scenario.

IV. HTTP Protocol

The Hypertext Transfer Protocol protocol is an application-layer protocol for distributed, collaborative, and hypermedia information systems.Although the HTTP protocol is commonly used for communication between a Web browser and a server, in some cases,Cellular Modem can also use the HTTP protocol to exchange data with the server.

V. CoAP Agreement

CoAP (Constrained Application Protocol) is a communication protocol designed for IoT devices. It is based on RESTful architecture and has the characteristics of low power consumption, low bandwidth and high reliability. It is very suitable for communication between Internet of Things devices with limited resources.

VI. AMQP Agreement

AMQP (Advanced Message Queuing Protocol) is an asynchronous messaging protocol used to transmit messages in distributed systems. The AMQP protocol supports a variety of message queue models, such as point-to-point, publish/subscribe, etc.For scenarios that require reliable message delivery and queue management.

VII. Modbus protocol

Modbus is a serial communication protocol, which is widely used in the field of industrial automation. While Modbus was originally designed for RS-485 and RS-232, it now supports TCP/IP networks as well. The Modbus protocol is simple and reliable, and is suitable for the communication of industrial automation equipment.

VIII. Summary

In the industrial Internet of Things, the appropriate Cellular Modem communication protocol can be selected according to different application scenarios and requirements.Protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, MQTT, HTTP, CoAP, AMQP, and Modbus are popular options.Choosing the appropriate communication protocol can ensure the balance of reliable data transmission, real-time and resource utilization.
